Opportunity for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellow

The NSF/DOE Quantum Science Summer School is a program dedicated to the education of graduate students and postdocs in the fields of condensed matter physics, materials science, and disciplines of quantum science in engineering, chemistry, and related fields. The annual summer school focuses on key topics of interest in quantum science and their applications to new technologies in academic and industrial contexts. The goal is to provide expert training to participants in these subfields by experts in the field in an intensive two week format. 

Financial Aid: QS3 will support most travel and local costs for students and postdocs. This includes reimbursement for travel including economy airfare up to $600, dormitory room, and meals.  Please note that travel funds are restricted to domestic by the terms QS3's support.

Housing and Meals: All participants will be staying in Mews Hall, located at 172 Cradit Farm Road, Ithaca NY 14853. Souvenir meal cards will be provided to each participant. The meal cards will be loaded with a mix of “Summer Bucks” (to be used on campus at any dining location) and “City Bucks” to be used at select off campus locations, including “Ithaca to go”

Lectures: The school is scheduled to begin at 8:40am in room 401 Physical Sciences Building with a welcome by the organizers, and the first lecture is scheduled for 9am. Typically there will be two lectures in the morning, 9:00am-12.30 pm with a coffee break 10.30-11 am, and one after-lunch lecture, panel discussion, or poster session at 2:00pm-3:30pm. Some additional seminars and discussions will also be held, with a final schedule posted on the website as soon as it's available. All students are strongly encouraged to present a poster at the school. Details about the posters will be contained in the admission letter you receive. Location for discussions and poster sessions are forthcoming. Copies of lectures notes will be available during the School. Soon after end of the School, these will also be available on the website. All talks will be videotaped and will be available online.
