Peyman Givi, Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering and James T. MacLeod Professor in the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, has been elected as a Fellow of The Combustion Institute, a prestigious international scientific society dedicated to the study of combustion.
The announcement was made by The Combustion Institute on Feb. 28, 2023, recognizing Givi's "outstanding contributions to the field of combustion." He will be recognized at the 40th International Symposium on Combustion in Milan, Italy.
Givi's work focuses on developing mathematical models and computational simulation strategies for understanding and optimizing combustion processes in a variety of applications, including energy generation, aircraft propulsion, automotives, and pollution control.
"It is an honor to be elected as a Fellow of such a renowned organization,” said Givi. “The Combustion Institute was founded in 1954 right here in Pittsburgh. I am grateful that Pitt has its first Fellow in this Institute."
The Combustion Institute's Fellowship program recognizes outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of combustion through research, teaching, or service. Givi's election as a Fellow is a significant honor and a testament to his dedication and excellence in the field of combustion.
