Research Assistant Professor Position - Director of Quantum Infrastructure
The Department of Physics and Astronomy, with Shared Research Support Services, Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, invites applications from individuals with a PhD or equivalent in Engineering or Physics or a closely related discipline. Applicants should have experience with cryogenic equipment including helium recovery plants and dilution refrigerators. The main duties of this position will be the oversight of the operation and maintenance of the Pitt Cryogenics Plant and recovery network, the oversight and maintenance of shared quantum instrumentation, and the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of cryogenic equipment within various laboratories and facilities within the Dietrich School. The director will serve as a backup for cryogenics plant operation and coordinate the maintenance and reporting effort for the plant among the SRSS team. The incumbent will collaborate with faculty to design and optimize new and existing cryostats and components and work with the electronics and machine shops to provide or arrange for advanced component fabrication and maintenance. The director will collaborate with faculty on proposal submissions, assist in training graduate students and postdoctoral scholars on the proper use and maintenance of their cryogenics systems, and support instructional efforts around the Quantum Information Core. The director will directly supervise at least one staff member in their area, with potential for additional reports depending on funding.
